What is INTRAN?
INTRAN is the multi-agency Interpreting and Translation Partnership for the Eastern Region. It is run jointly by a group of public agencies including local authorities, police, primary care trusts, hospitals, housing associations, educational and voluntary sector agencies. It is non-profit making and fully financed by its partners, who contribute to the cost of running and developing the service. Through INTRAN, partners promote actively the concept of "Communication for All" by making communication central to the way they work, and by seeking to put Public Service Interpreting the centre of policy-making and of service delivery.
The service provided through INTRAN is a fully co-ordinated Interpreting and Translation service for users and providers of services to the general public. Through tendering, INTRAN approves and commissions agencies to provide written translations, telephone interpreting, face-to-face interpreting (into a foreign language or British Sign Language), and lipspeaking. Additional services such as Braille and audio translations are also available. These agencies have all been selected to provide the best value for money service without sacrificing quality.
If you have ever had to work with someone who has difficulty expressing themselves in spoken English, you will know that the experience can be confusing, stressful, and professionally inappropriate for both you and that person. Through INTRAN, you will be able to access the kind of interpreter you need quickly and efficiently.
