This government document outlines guidelines on good translation practice.

Pearl Linguistics is the agency you will call whenever you want to order written translation.

There are various ways of booking translation services with Pearl Linguistics:

• By ORBIT™ - this is the online booking portal created by Pearl Linguistics and tailored specifically for INTRAN users. By far, this is the easiest way of booking translation services. Once you have registered with ORBIT™, you can login and click on Book a Translation in the Book Service menu and fill out the form.
   
• By Email - If you are not a registered user, or cannot find your ID Code, or do not have access to ORBIT ™ for any reason.
  
   
• By Fax - If you are not very familiar with any of the above or if you only have the hardcopies of the document you need to have translated, you can send your document by fax using the number 020 7253 0700.
   
• By post - If you have a large document which is not suitable for faxing (over 50 pages), we suggest that you send it to us by mail. PLEASE make copies of the documents you wish to send in this manner as things do get lost in the post.
   

The Process

Pearl Linguistics operates a 24/7 service.

If you book a translation by email, post or by fax, the minimum information that you need to supply is as follows:

• Your ID code
• Your full contact details including your name, organisation, department, telephone, address and email
• What is the original language of the document
• Which language(s) you want it translated into
• When you require the translation delivered back to you
• Any specific instructions you would like to give such as delivery method (e-mail, special delivery, first class post, courier, etc) or your required file format (word, pdf, etc.)

Pearl Linguistics will acknowledge reception of your request and attached documents, review your request and send you back a cost estimate in line with the agreed rates with your organisation. All you have to do is to sign it and fax it over.

We strongly recommend that you register with ORBIT, as it helps you monitor your bookings online 24 hours a day. ORBIT is also a secure site. For more information on ORBIT see the Pearl Linguistics Site.
 

If You Need Design Work Added To Your Translation Work

You will need to purchase an extra service called Desktop Publishing / Design. DTP (Desktop Publishing / Design) is needed when you have a leaflet or a brochure to be translated. It is the design work we have to do, to provide you with the exact leaflet in a different language including all the pictures, charts and colours.
